Afghan Dinner – Thursday 20 June 2021

Afghan Dinner

What a night it was! One hundred SAWA members and friends shared the fun, food and fund-raising at the Afghan Dinner at Rumi Palace, Prospect (SA) on 20 June. With a raffle, silent auction and a well-stocked table of books, bags and other items for sale, the evening was a huge success and raised $4773 for the Vocational Training Centre in Kabul.

Many kind and generous sponsors and donors provided prizes galore to be won in the raffle, or purchased in the auction. We extend grateful thanks to the following businesses and private individuals who made this possible:

Abaché, Glenelg; Aesthetic RX, Parkside; Anne McMenamin; Esplanade Apartments, West Beach; Banner Hardware, Blackwood; Brian and Maureen Arnott; Christine Tomczak; Deb Smith Photography, Blackwood; Denise Maddigan; Fiona Bennett; Jodie Prymke, Florilegium Gallery, North Adelaide; Jan Coveney’s Hanji Crafts, Strathalbyn; Jo Sayce; Julie Irwin; Kath Jones; Llewellyn Jones; Malcolm Bartsch; Margaret Gadd; Marilyn Prior, Medi Pedi, Glenelg; Murattis Cakes and Gateaux, Prospect; Oxfam Books, Adelaide; Phone Smiths, Blackwood; Purple Maiden Bath and Body, Bowden; Rumi Palace, Prospect; Ruth Russell; Snazzi Boutique, Blackwood; Terry White Pharmacy, Blackwood; Woolworths, Blackwood.

We shared a sumptuous three-course traditional Afghan dinner, served at tables on beautiful platters, and we acknowledge Rumi Palace Restaurant’s excellent food, service and friendship. Guests also enjoyed musical entertainment during the evening by Trio Montagne and the Tea Tree Gully Orchestra Ensemble, with poetry reading by Carol and Shaheen Shamsabadi.

On behalf of the women and girls of the Vocational Traning Centre, the SAWA-Australia (SA) Committee extends a thousand thanks to everyone who helped to make the evening such a success.
