SAWA in association with PIRA and the University Film Club will be presenting the contemporary Afghan film – “Bread and Roses” – to foster greater understanding of the social, economic and political situation in Afghanistan under Taliban rule. SAWA is collaborating with the University’s Politics and International Relations Society (PIRA) to host this event. We are also delighted to have the assistance of the University Film Club this year.

As the feature film, Bread & Roses, Jennifer Lawrence and Malala Yousafzai presented in November 2024, A fight for women’s rights after the Taliban’s resurgence in Afghanistan.
“Bread & Roses” offers a powerful window into the seismic impact that the fall of Kabul to the Taliban in 2021 had on women’s rights and livelihoods. The film follows three women in real time as they fight to recover their autonomy. Sahra Mani captures the spirit and resilience of Afghan women through a raw depiction of their harrowing plight.
