SAWA-Australia, the Support Association for the Women of Afghanistan, is dedicated to raising funds for human rights, education, nutrition, health, safety, and improving the self-esteem of Afghanistan's women and children, including those who live as refugees in Pakistan.
SAWA is operated entirely by volunteers and has extremely low administrative overheads (between 1 and 2%). Funds raised go to RAWA (Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan) projects and other projects dedicated to the advancement of the rights of Afghanistan's women.
SAWA is incorporated in South Australia, its finances are audited by an independent external auditor. Progress of SAWA's support projects is reported in SAWA's quarterly newsletter the SAWAN.
One of SAWA's support projects is the Vocational Training Centre operated by the Organization for Promoting Afghan Women's Capabilities (OPAWC) in Kabul.
